Advanced-level fiscal management is not about learning to read a balance sheet from scratch. It is about understanding what your financial systems are actually telling you, and whether the people responsible for the organization’s finances (staff, leadership, and the board) are engaging with that information in ways that protect the mission and support sound decisions.

This course walks through the full budget process: who builds it, what it should include, and how it gets reviewed throughout the year. From there, we move into fiduciary responsibility, what it actually means for a board to be accountable for an organization’s finances, and into organizational audits, including how to read an audit outcome and what to do when it is not a clean bill of health.

The throughline is this: financial management is not accounting for accounting’s sake. A budget that lives only on a spreadsheet is not doing its job. It should tell your story, surface your risks, and guide your decisions in real time. Take the pre-test before you begin and answer it based on where you are right now. You will answer the same questions again in the post-test at the end.
