Topic 2: The Stages of Burnout

There are three stages of burnout:

  1. Facing assorted potential stressors, including personal, interpersonal, or organizational stressors.
  2. Experiencing the strain of dealing with said stressors either psychologically, somatically (relating to the body, as opposed to the mind or spirit), and/or behaviorally.
  3. Defensive coping – changing attitudes/behaviors including reduced empathy/concern, detachment, and blaming participants.
