Recovery in Limbo: Deconstructing the Discriminating Language Around Pharmacotherapy

  • It is impossible to live a human existence without having feelings, intuitions, and impressions about people, places, and things. This is part of our survival instinct. It is a natural ability to discern safety and danger. But it becomes problematic when we generalize an attribution that negatively affects others.
  • Stigma, or bias, lurks in all of us. We can’t address stigma for people with SUD, unless we look at our own biases along the way. This is the hard work of advocacy.
